Apex, N.C. • A North Carolina middle-school teacher captured on video comparing a student to a slave has been suspended.

Local media outlets report the teacher at Apex Middle School, about 15 miles (24 kilometers) southwest of Raleigh, is heard on video telling the student he was being controlled by kids just as slaves were controlled by owners.

Ayona Wilson said her 13-year-old son was humiliated when the video was posted to Snapchat, and she has pulled him out of school.

Student Dayon Warren said the unidentified teacher got mad Wednesday when a group of students began laughing in a class where students finish their school work. He said the teacher used the slave-master analogy in trying to say children need to listen to adults.

Wake County Public Schools spokeswoman Lisa Luten said Thursday the incident is being investigated.
