The 19th annual Great Salt Lake Bird Festival opens May 18 with free workshops, art contests, field trips and displays.
Most of the events over five days, with the exception of the vendor show at the Davis County Fairgrounds in Farmington, require advance registration. There are events for birders of all skill levels, including tours by car, van, bus, horseback, even canoe, all over northern Utah.
Noah Strycker, who set a world record for the worldwide Big Year of Birding by seeing 6,042 of the world's estimated 10,400 bird species in a single year, is the keynote speaker. He will talk on May 20 at a dinner.
The vendor show at the fairgrounds runs Friday, May 19, from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will include live animal displays, artists, environmental organizations, and a Home Depot kids event on Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon.
This is one of the nation's top birding events and offers a chance to learn from some of the top wildlife experts in the country.
