A new, larger park-and-wait lot is scheduled to open at Salt Lake City International Airport on June 1 — and, later this year, it will even have its own gas station and convenience store.

The current lot is located east of Terminal Drive and south of Terminal 1. It is scheduled to close about 6 a.m. on June 1.

The new lot will be located south of the existing lot and west of Terminal Drive. It will have 120 parking spaces, compared with 86 slots now available.

The existing lot will make way for work on a new elevated roadway, part of a $3.1 billion rebuild of the airport.

The new terminal is projected to have roadways on different levels to pick up and drop off passengers. That configuration is expected to help relieve congestion on Terminal Drive.

In August, the airport plans to open a convenience store in the new park-and-wait lot, which will include a Chevron gas station, an electric charging station and food options, including a Beans & Brews Coffee House, Burger King and Costa Vida.

The store will serve customers who walk in or use a drive-thru lane. Partners for that store are Kellerstrass Oil Co, HB Boys Management Co. and Big-D Construction.

The airport reconstruction will include a new terminal, two new concourses and a new parking garage. The first phase is scheduled for completion in 2020.
