Chamber president Beattie is the 38th 'Giant in our City'

Lane Beattie is now the 38th "Giant in Our City."

The Salt Lake Chamber's board of governors surprised its current president and CEO with the honor Friday night during a gala celebrating the chamber's 130th anniversary at the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Theater.

"Due to Lane, the 'American Dream' is alive and well in Utah, where we all have access to a good job, a good education, good healthcare, affordable housing and a good life," said Scott Anderson, a former chamber board president and CEO of Zions Bank.

Added Gov. Gary Herbert: "The chamber has been an integral part in helping the Utah story be told … [as] the best performing economy in all of America …. because of the efforts of Lane Beattie and the Salt Lake Chamber."

A former state senator, Beattie became chamber president in 2003. He has been vocal on many issues impacting Utah's economy — such as transportation, education and infrastructure development — and played a major role in securing funding for Interstate 15 widening in Utah County and the Utah Transit Authority's FrontRunner line.

Beattie is one of only two local-chamber presidents nationwide to sit on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce 100.
