A 58-year woman drowned Sunday after she jumped into a creek at Tanner Park to try to save her dogs.

The woman was walking dogs with her husband at the park, 2760 Heritage Way (2695 East), when the animals went into the water just after 6 p.m. and were struggling, Unified Police Department Lt. Brian Lohrke said. He said the dogs were rescued but the woman was swept away by the current.

A passerby pulled her from the water, Lohrke said. Unified Fire Authority personnel performed CPR but were unable to revive her, he said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the woman has not been released.
