The Park City Culinary Institute has opened a second school in Salt Lake City, offering day and evening classes for those interested in working in a professional kitchen as well as home cooks looking to improve their skills.

The first session begins Monday. Others start June 26, Aug. 21 and Oct. 16. New programs being offered in the school, 1484 S. State St., include "Pastry and Baking" and "Cuisine." Classes meet twice a week for eight weeks. Students get $500 off tuition by enrolling in both programs. An evening program begins June 7. Details at culinaryschoolutah.com.

The Park City Culinary Institute in Salt Lake City is in a historic building that was once an ice rink, said founder and owner Laurie Moldawer. It has been remodeled to include state-of-the-art equipment, including four commercial ranges —with 24 burners — and six commercial ovens.

"We now have over 4,000 square feet of teaching space," Moldawer said. "The Salt Lake City location can do everything — culinary school programs, individual cooking classes, private events, space rentals where you can cook for a party and demonstration dinners."

Moldawer founded the Park City Culinary Institute in 2014, modeling it after European-style programs that teach students the basics in a short amount of time so they can get an entry-level cooking job quickly. Houman Gohary, chef/owner of Park City's Good Karma restaurant, leads the staff. He previously trained culinary employees and helped open Ritz-Carlton properties in Japan, China, Spain and Dubai.

The original Park City location is still in operation and will focus on corporate events: cooking classes, teambuilding, chef dinners and meetings and conferences, said Moldawer.
