Crime » Man found dead inside his car near 3200 South and 900 West.

South Salt Lake Police are looking for a homicide suspect after finding a 46-year-old man dead of a gunshot wound Sunday afternoon.

South Jordan resident Matthew Holt was found dead in his Mazda sedan, with the driver's door open, at about 2:45 p.m., in the area of 3200 South and 900 West, South Salt Lake Police officials said.

Department spokesman Gary Keller said Holt's car was in a parking lot, though he wasn't sure which one. A local business owner discovered Holt's body.

Keller said the wound did not appear to be self-inflicted.

Investigators have been working the case nonstop since Sunday afternoon, but do not yet have any suspects, Keller said. They don't yet know what Holt was doing earlier in the weekend, or why he came to the parking lot.

Investigators suspect the shooting may have occurred several hours before Holt's body was found.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area Sunday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. — and may have spotted Holt or his vehicle — to call South Salt Lake Police Dispatch at 801-840-4000.
