A group trying to encourage more Utah women to get involved in politics — and run for office — is now taking registrations for its spring training.

More than 80 women have already signed up for the Real Women Run training on April 22 — a 40 percent increase, according to the organization.

"We're thrilled to see such a positive response," said Erin Jemison, YWCA director of public policy and one of the Real Women Run organizers. The group is affiliated with the nonprofit YWCA.

The training, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, 411 E. South Temple, costs $15 and includes lunch. Register online at realwomenrun.org.

Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski will give the keynote address. Other speakers include Salt Lake City Council member Lisa Adams; Millcreek Council member Sylvia Catten; Ogden City Councilwoman Marcia White; Lehi City Council member Paige Albrecht; and Sherrie Everett, former Provo municipal council member who is now running for mayor.

The day's theme is "Are You Ready to Get to Work?" Presentations will cover messaging, media, research, demographics and fundraising and also include campaign insights from local leaders.
