Utah 11th best state in which to retire, says website study

Utah is the 11th best state in which to retire, according to Bankrate.com, a personal finance website.

A website study rated states on eight factors — cost of living, healthcare quality, crime, cultural vitality, weather, taxes, senior citizens' well being ad the prevalence of other seniors, said Bankrate.com spokesman Ted Rossman.

Utah scored best in seniors' well being, (seventh) and healthcare quality (eighth). The state's biggest weakness was having the second lowest percentage of residents age 65 and older, he noted.

New Hampshire was Bankrate's best place to retire, followed by Colorado, Maine, Iowa and Minnesota.

Vista Outdoor Inc. faces shareholder lawsuit over impairment charge

Vista Outdoor Inc. is facing a shareholder lawsuit over its decision in January to take an impairment charge of $400 million to $450 million.

The Farmington-based sports and outdoor recreation equipment maker and marketer issued a press release saying it expects to write down the quarterly goodwill of its hunting and shooting accessories unit because of a softening of retail sales, deeper discounting and shift in consumer preferences. Goodwill is an intangible measure of a company's reputation, brand name and other factors.

The lawsuit, which seeks class action status, alleges the company, CEO Mark W. DeYoung, senior vice president and CFO Stephen M. Nolan and former Outdoor Products President Kelly T. Grindle violated federal securities law by making false or misleading statements or failed to disclose relevant information.

The suit seeks unspecified damages for shareholders who bought Vista shares between Aug. 11, 2016, and Jan. 13, 2017.

Vista did not respond to a request for comment.
