Utah Gay and Lesbian Wedding Expo runs Sunday at Pierpont Place

The Utah Gay and Lesbian Wedding Expo will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Pierpont Place, 163 W. 250 South, in Salt Lake City.

More than 40 LGBT-friendly wedding professionals will have exhibits at the expo, designed to help same-sex couples find willing vendors for their weddings.

"We've all read the news when a same-sex couple tries to work with unknown photographers, cake bakers, venues, even florists who refuse service," said Michael Aaron, publisher of QSaltLake Magazine. "It makes it easier for all of those involved to put their cards on the table. Knowing who wants your business can go a long way in relieving the stress of planning a wedding."

The magazine is co-sponsoring the event with Utahgayweddings.com, QPages and QPages.com.

Dickey's Barbecue Pit restaurants are now closed on Sundays

Starting this weekend, all Dickey's Barbecue Pit restaurants in Utah will be closed on Sundays.

Restaurant owners and operators agreed to close "in response to feedback from the local community," said the company, which also said the chain's Kids Eat Free deal will be offered on Mondays in Utah instead of Sunday.

"We are always looking for opportunities to connect with the local communities in which we operate," said Dickey's CEO Laura Rea Dickey.

Dickey's website lists 17 restaurants in Utah.

50 kids from Catholic Community Services, Hope to Dream to get beds from Ashley Furniture

Fifty children from Catholic Community Services and the Hope to Dream Foundation will receive beds Monday from the Utah Jazz and Ashley Furniture HomeStores.

The twin beds — complete with pillows, sheets and a Jazz blanket — will be delivered during a party on Vivint Smart Home Arena court. Ashley Furniture also will provide a full bedroom makeover to five event participants.

Kurt Haines, president of Ashley HomeStores Enterprise West, said "every child deserves a good night sleep. We are blessed to be able to assist with that. Our goal in 2017 is to give away 5,000 beds."

Jazz broadcaster and former player Thurl Bailey is scheduled to read a bedtime story to the kids, said team spokesman Frank Zang.
