A traffic stop on Sunday afternoon resulted in Utah County sheriff's deputies seizing close to $25,000 worth of drugs and paraphernalia which an Oregon man had intended to sell in connection with the Holi Festival of Colors at the Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork.

A rookie deputy — who was still in training — pulled over the 19-year-old, who was driving on a walking trail in Hobble Creek Canyon, and found a plethora of different drugs, said Utah County Sgt. Spencer Cannon on Tuesday.

Officers seized 727 pills of ecstasy, two grams of cocaine, eight vials (800 doses) of LSD, 47 grams of marijuana, 12 Xanax pills, 22 grams (660 doses) of marijuana dabs (which is a processed, waxy form of the drug), two bongs, more drug paraphernalia and $1,120, said Cannon.

Three teenagers — a 17-year old boy, a 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl — were with the man, who is from Bend, said Cannon.

The man was booked into the Utah County jail on suspicion of possession with intent to distribute, a first-degree felony; possession of marijuana and Xanax with intent to distribute, a second-degree felony; and child endangerment, a third-degree felony; and a DUI, a class B misdemeanor. He later tested positive for THC and benzodiazepine, said Cannon.

The juveniles were held overnight at the Vantage Point facility at Wasatch Mental Health since none of the three had anywhere to stay the night, and Cannon said a family member is taking them back to Oregon.

Cannon suspects the man was using the teenagers to sell the drugs at the festival, but said they denied it.

"It was a huge bust for a patrol activity. It's not very common at all to find those levels of drugs in just a traffic stop," said Cannon. "But the variety of drugs, too, is what is shocking."

The driver also was cited driving on the sidewalk.
