Mark Twain boasted that on a particular spring day he had "counted 136 different kinds of weather inside of four and twenty hours."

The American humorist and author likely needed a sharp pencil and his ever-present notebook to score those changes. Utahns, looking to their midweek weather forecast, can probably get by with their counting fingers, with toes in reserve.

Wednesday along the Wasatch Front will be partly cloudy and breezy en route to highs in the upper-50s, up about 5 degrees from Tuesday, when 10-20 mph winds were the forecast. Rain showers return to northern Utah on Thursday, blowing at 15-25 mph to daytime highs in the mid-60s.

Southern Utahns, after leaning into gusts up to 50 mph and highs around 70 degrees on Tuesday, looked for calmer conditions and highs in the mid-70s on a sunny Wednesday. Old Sol rules Utah's Dixie again on Thursday, approaching 80 degrees, but winds of 15-25 mph return along with evening rain showers.

The Utah Division of Air Quality continues its universal "green," or health ratings for breathing conditions statewide into the midweek.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website listed only cottonwood at "very high" and oak as "high" on its pollen index as of Tuesday, with ash and birch at "moderate" levels.
