Hikers found human skeletal remains Sunday in Deaf Smith Canyon, police said.

Cottonwood Heights police received a call about 1:15 p.m. about the discovery of bones near 8800 South and 3700 East, according to Unified Police Department Lt. Brian Lohrke.

Lohrke said UPD was called in when it was determined the remains were on Forest Service land.

Forensic testing will be conducted to try to identify the remains.
