You officially can add in the two rookies.

On Wednesday, Real Salt Lake announced it has signed both of its 2017 MLS SuperDraft picks, defenders Reagan Dunk and Justin Schmidt, to first-team deals. The latest signings bring RSL's 2017 roster to 27 players under contract.

"Our scouting of Reagan and Justin goes back quite a bit, and we made no bones about it that they were the two players we targeted going into the draft," RSL general manager Craig Waibel said in a club release. "Neither one of them has disappointed, and ultimately they both deserve this opportunity."

RSL drafted Dunk No. 13 in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft in January. The 22-year-old outside back out of the University of Denver is a two-time MAC Hermann semifinalist and was a 2016 first-team All-American selection. The Dallas native finished second in Denver history with 79 career appearances, 74 of which were starts. Dunk is expected to compete for backup minutes at the right-back position, but is likely to see the bulk of his time with Real Monarchs in 2017.

Schmidt, 23, once was coached by Waibel at the University of Washington. The center back made 80 career appearances for the Huskies, including 78 starts. Schmidt had nine goals and 19 assists in his 80 appearances with Washington. Schmidt, a first-team All-Pac-12 selection his senior year, has impressed the RSL coaching staff this preseason, but like Dunk is expected to see significant minutes with the Monarchs, who start their season March 25 at Portland Timbers 2 at Providence Park.
