Former BYU basketball star Jimmer Fredette scored 52 points in a 2011 game against New Mexico as his career high in Provo, but it was a paltry effort compared to his output for the Shanghai Sharks Sunday.

Fredette poured on 73 points — and still lost in double-overtime — in a 135-132 road defeat to Zhejiang Guangsha Lions in the Chinese Basketball Association.

In his first year with Shanghai, Fredette is averaging 36 points, eight rebounds and four assists this season. He's the third leading scorer in the league behind Errick McCollum and MarShon Brooks.

Fredette was the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft and spent his NBA career to date with the Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bullls, New Orleans Pelicans and New York Knicks before winning the D-League All-Star Game MVP trophy with the Westchester Knicks in 2016.
