Utah's fourth-ranked gymnastics team overcame a poor uneven bars showing a week ago to win at home, but couldn't pull off a similar feat on the road Saturday as the Utes lost at No. 11 Oregon State 196.550-196.525.

Utah coach Tom Farden said the Utes never could build momentum as they had at least one low score on each event to suffer their first loss of the season.

"They fought through, but it just wasn't enough," he said. "We'd have one head scratcher of a score every event, but the good thing is this team didn't stop fighting and they were competing in a tough environment."

The Utes (7-1, 2-1 Pac-12) started the meet with a 48.975 on the uneven bars to trail Oregon State (6-1, 2-1), which opened on the vault with a 49.075.

Unlike the meet against Cal, the Utes didn't have any major breaks Saturday, but didn't get the big scores like they are accustomed to earning, with MyKayla Skinner getting a high score of 9.825.

The Utes also had to count scores of two 9.8s from Missy Reinstadtler and Kari Lee and 9.775s from Tiffani Lewis and Baely Rowe.

The Utes came back with a decent showing on vault, scoring 49.125 and then earned the same score on floor where Skinner provided the highlight with a 9.9.

The efforts were good, but not enough to overtake the Beavers, who led 147.25-147.225.

Utah finished the meet with a strong showing on the balance beam, scoring a 49.3 as MaKenna Merrell, Reinstadtler, Rowe and Skinner all earned 9.875s.

But the effort wasn't enough to beat the Beavers at home as they closed out the upset with a 49.3 on the floor.

Oregon State's Kaytianna McMillan put a stamp on the win by earning a 9.925, which gave her the floor title and a 39.5 in the all-around, which tied Skinner for the individual title.

Utah captain Maddy Stover said the bars weren't as dynamic as they should have been, but noted the vault isn't producing the big scores the Utes need as well. Utah ranks fourth nationally on the event with a 49.245.

"We still have some short landings," Stover said. "We need to get bigger scores and we are capable of it, so we need some improvement."

Saturday's meet marks the latest tough effort in Corvallis for the Utes. They went into the meet holding a 65-9-1 lead in the series, but lost in Corvallis in 2011 and 2013 before winning in 2015. —
