• Amgen Inc., up $2.86 to $143.45

• PepsiCo Inc., up $1.42 to $103.57

Consumer goods makers, including beverage companies, recovered some of their post-election losses.

• Broadcom Ltd., up $8.38 to $179.09

The chipmaker disclosed strong earnings and doubled its quarterly dividend.

• United Continental Holdings Inc., up $2.43 to $75.17

The airline raised a revenue projection for the fourth quarter.

• Aflac Inc., down 56 cents to $69.06

Financial firms like insurance companies traded lower. They had made outsize gains since the presidential election.

• Stillwater Mining Co., up $2.64 to $17.32

The mining company said it will be bought by South Africa's Sibanye Gold in a deal the companies valued at $2.2 billion.
