A man remained in critical condition Wednesday, the day after bailing out, aflame, from a burning SUV in Murray.

Public safety dispatchers confirmed that Murray police and fire units, along with Unified Fire Authority paramedics, rushed to the scene of the blaze, 1325 E. Maplewood Drive (6290 South), at 10:27 p.m. Tuesday.

Emergency responders arrived to the find the man, still on fire, being aided by passers-by.

The man, in his mid-20s, was first rushed by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, and then flown to the University of Utah Burn center with extensive second- and third-degree burns over much of his body.

The victim's identity was not immediately released.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, though police were looking into reports that an explosion had occurred shortly before the blaze.
