A fire caused significant damage to an LDS Church building in eastern Idaho on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse, at 3109 Swan Valley Highway in Swan Valley, about 2 p.m. after someone reported smoke coming from the building, according to a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office. Flames were visible by the time firefighters arrived, and the crews kept the fire contained to the property around the church.

Highway 26, which runs alongside the building, was closed for more than an hour after the flames were extinguished, the release said. Fire personnel planned to remain at the scene throughout the night.

Motorists coming through the area were asked to use caution, the release said. No one was in the building at the time of the fire, and no one was reported injured, the release said. Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
