Deputy Mayor Lori Bays is leaving Salt Lake County after one term of aiding Mayor Ben McAdams, but she won't be replaced straight up.

McAdams told county employees last week that Bays was leaving to pursue unidentified "opportunities" and that he was restructuring the mayor's office to reflect its greater emphasis on being a regional government.

With that in mind, he revised the duties of four key members of his administration:

• Darrin Casper will be deputy mayor and chief financial officer;

• Erin Litvack will be deputy mayor and chief administrative officer;

• Rick Graham will be deputy mayor and chief operations officer;

• Karen Hale will be deputy mayor for community and external affairs.

"All other cabinet positions are unchanged," McAdams said, although he must find a director of the department of community services to replace Litvack. He noted that the County Council must change a county ordinance to enable McAdams to restructure his management team.

The mayor praised Bays for her work as deputy mayor and, before that, director of the county's department of human services.

"She cares deeply about the well-being of residents here and has made significant contributions to a safer, healthier, more prosperous future for everyone in this valley," he added.

Bays said she enjoyed her time with the county and looked forward to working with "community partners and fellow residents to help all members of our community."
