Salt Lake City police canceled an Amber Alert on Tuesday for a 3-year-old girl after she was found safe in Hawaii.

SLCPD Detective Greg Wilking said the girl's father, who lives in Hawaii, sent the girl to stay with her mother, who does not have legal custody, in Utah from Oct. 24 to Nov. 1. At the end of the scheduled visit, however, the mother apparently indicated that she wouldn't return the girl, Wilking said.

On Tuesday, hours after the Amber Alert was issued, the mother walked off a plane in Hawaii with her daughter. The woman was then taken into police custody, Wilking said. The girl had last been seen Monday in Murray with her mother.

The father was granted a temporary restraining order Monday, asking the mother to return the child. The order also accuses the mother of committing "violent acts" against third parties in the child's presence and assaulting and threatening the father's significant other in late October.

The court had "grave concern" for the girl being with her mother when the Amber Alert was issued.
