A small plane crashed in Elko, Nev., sending flames and plumes of smoke into the air Friday evening.

The twin-engine plane crashed "under unknown circumstances" in a parking lot northeast of Elko Regional Airport, said Allen Kenitzer, spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Local authorities, Kenitzer said, reported that four people were on board. Information on any occupant injuries is unknown. There were, however, no injuries to nonpassengers.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident.
