Intermountain Healthcare is launching Navican Genomics

Intermountain Healthcare is launching a new research and testing company called Navican Genomics.

Ingo Chakravarty, a 26-year veteran of the healthcare industry, will be president and CEO of a company that help physicians identify personalized options for treating and preventing cancer.

"Navican gives new hope to patients and their families," said Lincoln Nadauld, Precision Genomics' executive.

Navican will focus on combining targeted therapies with technological advances to make precision medicine a viable option for cancer patients.

"The partnership between Intermountain Healthcare and Navican will help physicians across the world to provide high-quality solutions at more sustainable costs," said Intermountain President and CEO Marc Harrison.

Brighton's ski patrol honored as 'the outstanding large Alpine patrol' by National Ski Patrol

Brighton Resort's ski patrol was honored recently as "the outstanding large Alpine patrol" for the 2015-16 season by the National Ski Patrol.

Ski patrol member Steve Achelis also was runner-up in the outstanding Alpine patroller category. He is an instructor in outdoor emergency care and CPR, president of the Utah Avalanche Center board, a Wasatch Backcountry Rescue member and former commander with Salt Lake County Search and Rescue.

Bill Gallagher, a Brighton ski-patrol director, said the award was significant because it's given to only one team (with 41 members or more) "out of all the ski patrols in North America and Europe."

National Ski Patrol spokeswoman Candace Horgan said decisions were based on patrol accomplishments the previous four years. Since 2012, she noted, members of Brighton's patrol have received numerous awards and many are instructors in the organization's outdoor emergency care and transportation programs.

Off the slopes, Horgan added, patrollers provided emergency-care services and logistical support to a charity run and participated in a 150-mile bike ride for multiple sclerosis.
