An early Wednesday morning fire at an east Salt Lake City residence left five people homeless, but no one was hurt.

Salt Lake City Fire Capt. Davin Halvorsen said the 4:29 a.m. fire was "deep seated," possibly having begun in the walls from a potential electrical wiring problem. However, the cause officially was undetermined pending investigation.

The two-story, wood framed home at 1181 S. 900 East is owned and occupied by an elderly woman who was renting out space to four other people.

Halvorsen said the home was no longer safe to live in. Damages were expected to exceed $50,000.
