A fatal two-vehicle crash just north of the Utah state line involving Idaho and Utah residents was under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

Ivan Mott, 44, of Weston, Idaho, was driving south on State Highway 34, a mile south of Riverdale, when his 1999 Chevrolet Suburban crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup truck hauling a flatbed trailer.

The 10:45 a.m. Monday crash sent both Ivan Mott and 18-year-old passenger Jonathan Mott to the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston. The elder Mott was pronounced dead a short time later; the younger Mott's condition was not immediately known.

Neither of two men in the pickup truck — 49-year-old Robert Newswander of Hyde Park, Utah, nor his 39-year-old passenger, Ernesto Mariscal-Farias of Clifton — was seriously injured, ISP said.

The cause of the accident remained under investigation on Tuesday.
