A motorcyclist was in critical condition after he hit the side of a car on a freeway ramp in Murray early Sunday afternoon.

The 60-year-old motorcyclist from Taylorsville was merging onto a southbound ramp for Interstate 15 from I-215 about 2:10 p.m., said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jacob Cox.

He attempted to pass two vehicles traveling side by side in separate lanes and struck the car on the left. The motorcyclist then lost control, Cox said, and crashed into a concrete barrier to the right of the freeway.

The man was transported to a local hospital with a broken ankle and leg in "poor" shape. No one in the car was injured.
