A motorcyclist was killed early Sunday morning in a North Salt Lake collision.

North Salt Lake police Sgt. Mitch Gwilliam said the crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Center Street and U.S. 89. According to Gwilliam, a man in a pickup collided with the male motorcycle rider. The impact was strong enough to cause the truck to roll.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 30s from the Bountiful area, was not wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup driver was uninjured, said Gwilliam.

The crash caused a traffic backup in both directions of U.S. 89 until around 11 a.m., Gwilliam said.

Police haven't determined if alcohol or speed was a factor in the collision, but Gwilliam said the cause of the crash is still being investigated.

Police declined to release the name of the victim pending notification of his relatives.
