Utahs involved in crashes caused by moose on Idaho highway

Pocatello, Idaho • Authorities say two people have been hospitalized after a moose walked onto a highway in southeastern Idaho and caused a three-vehicle collision.

The Monday morning crash occurred east of American Falls on Interstate 86.

Idaho State Police say Kim Sortor, of Pocatello, had been heading west when she slammed into the moose.

A vehicle behind her, driven by Jaime Velasco, of Cedar City, Utah, had swerved to avoid the animal and slid off the highway.

Lashae Hamilton, of Springfield, had been driving a third westbound vehicle that struck the moose and then went off the right shoulder off the road.

Velasco and his passenger were taken to a hospital, while both Sortor and Hamilton were unhurt.

The moose did not survive.
