Alpine Investors purchases software producer ARCOM
Alpine Investors V SBIC said Wednesday is has purchased ARCOM, a Salt Lake City company that produces software that integrates building specification content. Terms were not disclosed.
ARCOM is an American Institute of Architects' partner, maintaining and distributing the MasterSpec software content used by 88 percent of the country's top architectural and engineering companies, said Alpine Investors' CEO Jim Contardi, who will be ARCOM's chief executive.
"The U.S. non-residential construction market, which is just now starting to reap the tremendous benefits brought by technology, is forecast to grow for the next decade," added March Strauch, a partner in Alpine investors and now an ARCOM trustee.
Sparano + Mooney named architectural firm of the year
Salt Lake City-based Sparano + Mooney Architecture was named the western mountain region's architectural firm of the year by the American Institute of Architects. This is the first time a Utah architectural firm won the award, said Sparano + Mooney spokeswoman Stephanie Hatton.
Founded in 1997 by John Sparano and Anne Mooney, the firm has designed buildings in Utah, Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Colorado and California. Some of their design work is featured in an exhibition running through Oct. 21 at the Rio Gallery in the lobby of the Rio Grande Depot, 300 S. 455 West.
Chronic Tacos grand opening is Saturday in Sugar House
The first Utah outlet of Chronic Tacos, a fast-casual Mexican food chain based in Alisa Viejo, Calif., will have a grand opening ceremony Saturday at 2121 McClelland St. in Sugar House.
Professional skateboarder and television personality Jason "Wee Man" Acuna , from "Jackass," will be present for the event, which runs from 1-5 p.m. and also includes a drawing for a custom-painted snowboard, free tacos and live music, said Chronic Tacos spokeswoman Lindsey Mee.
Part of the proceeds from the grand opening weekend will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salt Lake. Started in 2002, the chain now has 30 restaurants, she added.

• Ryan Smith, CEO of the Provo-based research software company Qualtrics, was ranked 12th in Fortune magazine's "40 Under 40" list of young business executives. The 38-year-old's profile noted he got rid of lunch meetings, doesn't wear socks and has a circular dinner table to boost conversation with his wife and five children.
