Mexico City • Canadian mining company Goldcorp says it is suspending operations at Mexico's largest gold mine as a weeklong blockade by a trucking contractor and local residents drags on.

The company said in a statement Monday that it plans to seek criminal charges against the protest leaders at the Penasquito mine in Zacatecas state.

Protesters have a range of demands, including building a medical clinic for a local community.

Goldcorp implied the protest began after it recently tried to diversify its transportation supply plan.
