A son tried to strangle to death his 53-year-old father in Holladay early Saturday morning, police say.

Dispatchers received a "suspicious" medical call about 5:30 a.m. at a home near 4000 S. 2600 East, said Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke. During the call, the 24-year-old son apparently made statements that "indicated [he] may be involved in the incident," according to a UPD news release.

When police arrived, they found the father in critical condition. He was transported to a nearby hospital, Lohrke said, and the son was arrested. Officers are treating the case as an attempted homicide.

The father's injuries were "nothing obvious," Lohrke said. He later confirmed that the man was strangled after some kind of struggle.
