Author Peggy Toney Horton said an October day is like "your birthday, Fourth of July and Christmas all rolled into one." Utah's weather on this first day of the month seems to match that description.

Across the state, temperatures will be warm in the morning and afternoon — though perhaps not firecracker hot — and cool in the evening as a storm system moves in.

Salt Lake City will hover around a high of 80 with sunny skies early in the day. Rain and thunderstorms will likely start in the late afternoon, bringing lows near 60. Showers will persist throughout the week.

Southwestern Utah will see highs in the upper 80s on Saturday with mostly clear skies and lows in the mid-60s. Light breezes will push through St. George starting Sunday, with the mercury dipping as low as the upper 40s. The remainder of the week will bring cool temperatures.
