A Utah State University football player broke his leg in a crash in Logan on Thursday night.

Zachary Swenson, 22, was traveling west at the mouth of Logan Canyon about 10 p.m., said Logan police Capt. Tyson Budge. Swenson was traveling too fast on a sharp turn and crashed into a cliff face on the side of the road.

He had an "obvious leg fracture," Budge said, and his 21-year-old passenger suffered hip and head injuries. Both men were wearing seat belts and are expected to recover.

Swenson, a freshman, plays safety, USU spokesman Tim Vitale confirmed. He graduated from Salt Lake City's East High School.
