A Clearfield home was engulfed in flames Friday night after a generator sparked a fire outside the residence.

Crews responded to the blaze about 9 p.m. near 400 South and State Street, according to a news release from North Davis Fire District. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within minutes, stopping it before it reached nearby homes.

The home's residents — a family of three — were not present when the fire started. They told responders that they got a generator for electricity after their power went out, and that they ran it outside the home. The generator sparked a fire, investigators say, which spread to the home.

The blaze caused about $15,000 worth of damage, the release states, and the home is a total loss. No injuries were reported.
