A 3-month-old child is dead — and his mother is in critical condition — after a crash in Cache County on Thursday.

A sedan carrying the baby, identified as Andy Barriga, was traveling north on State Route 165 about 5 p.m., according to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol. The sedan turned left in front of a pickup truck traveling south near 1700 South in Providence.

The truck struck the passenger side of the sedan and pushed it into another car in the intersection. The pickup then rolled into the southbound shoulder of SR-165, the release states.

The truck's driver, a pregnant woman, suffered broken bones and cuts and was taken to a local hospital. The 26-year-old driver of the sedan, Norma Barriga, of Logan, was flown to an Ogden hospital in extremely critical condition and remained so Saturday. Andy Barriga, her son, was flown to Primary Children's Hospital, where he died from his injuries Friday.
