Former Marshall coach is Bank of Utah's tour speaker

Jack Lengyel, who took over as coach of the Marshall University football program after the team was killed in a 1970 airplane crash, will be the Bank of Utah's speaker Oct. 4-5 in its annual fall tour.

Portrayed by Matthew McConaughey in the movie "We Are Marshall," Lengyel will speak four times about his feelings at the time of the tragedy and what he did to bring about the program's revival.

Thirty-six players, nine coaches, 25 boosters and five flight crew members died Nov. 14, 1970 when their plane crashed into a hill outside of Ceredo, W. Va., returning from a 17-14 loss to East Carolina.

On Oct. 4, Lengyel will be at Hub 801, 3535 Riverdale Road, in Ogden from 8-9 a.m., and at The Riverwoods Conference Center, 615 Riverwoods Parkway, in Logan from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Then on Oct. 5, Lengyel will speak at Thanksgiving Point, 2935 Thanksgiving Way, in Lehi from 8-9 a.m. and at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Events are free but pre-registration is required at https://bankofutah.com/events. Seating is limited, said bank spokeswoman Rhonda Greenwood.

Vail Resorts to open Patagonia retail store in Park City

Come mid-December, Vail Resorts will open a Patagonia retail store in Park City on the corner of Main Street and Heber Avenue, in a long-vacant building that once housed the Silver Queen Hotel.

Vail's retail division entered a long-term lease for the 3,000-square-foot location and is working with Park City government for a building permit to renovate the structure's interior.

"Adding this store will further contribute to the robust offerings in the active, outdoors category on main Street and provide apparel that the Park City community and guests seek," said Kat Jobanputra, Vail Resorts Retail's chief operating officer.

She pledged 5 percent of proceeds from the grand opening period to the Mountain Trails Foundation, a non profit that builds, maintains and protects non-motorized trails around Park City.
