Summer will make its last stand in Utah on Tuesday with sunny skies and warm temperatures across much of the state, followed by a hard turn towards winter by mid-week.

The National Weather Service says temperatures will rise to about 92 in Salt Lake City, with winds up to 7 mph. Logan will see highs near 83.

Southern Utah also starts the day warm — about 87 —with the possibility of showers and thunderstorms developing by afternoon.

By Wednesday, the chance of showers and thunderstorms will spread across the state, with a 80 percent chance of storms in Salt Lake City by evening.

The storms will force a drop in temperatures statewide.

By Friday: Salt Lake City's high will reach only 56; Logan, 54 and St. George will top out at 69.
