A park employee died at Yellowstone National Park early Wednesday morning.

Estefania Liset Mosquera Alcivar, 21, of Quito, Ecuador, was talking with a small group of co-workers near the rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River when she fell over the edge about 3:15 a.m., according to a news release from the park.

Her colleagues called 911, the release states, and responding officers determined that the fall was "not survivable." Search and rescue crews used a helicopter to recover the woman's body about 10 a.m. due to the steep and inaccessible terrain.

The incident is under investigation. Park officials encourage visitors to use caution on all trails overlooking the Grand Canyon.
