A body found in the Arizona desert last week was that of a southern Utah man missing since late June, an autopsy has confirmed.

A Bureau of Land Management geologist stumbled across David Corey Heisler's body on Aug. 18 in the Mount Trumbull wilderness area in Arizona. The 30-year-old Santa Clara man was reported missing nearly two months ago under suspicious circumstances.

Medical examiners were unable to determine a cause of death, according to a Tuesday press release from the Mojave County (Ariz.) Sheriff's Office.

Three defendants — Francis Lee McCard, 55, Kelley Marie Perry, 31, and Tammy Renee Freeman, 54 — are suspected in Heisler's death and disappearance, which appears to be over an alleged child custody dispute, court documents state.

The trio, being held at Washington County jail, was charged in Utah's 5th District Court with first-degree felony counts of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated burglary, as well as second-degree felony car theft

Deputy Washington County Attorney Zachary Weiland said Thursday that prosecutors are reviewing the case and considering additional homicide charges. The incident spans three potential court jurisdictions — Utah, Arizona and federal — and Weiland said his team will speak with all agencies involved before filing "appropriate charges."

Heisler was awarded custody of his and Perry's 6-year-old daughter, records show, two weeks before he was reported missing.

On June 27, Freeman purportedly drove McCard and Perry — who police have said were "romantically involved" — to Heisler's home. Heisler opened the door and was apparently assaulted by McCard; McCard and Perry then pushed Heisler into his own car and drove it to the Utah-Arizona border, charges state.

At some point, Perry says she got out of the car and had Freeman pick her up. McCard kept driving and later had the two women pick him up in Beaver Dam, Ariz. Officers found Heisler's car abandoned in Beaver Dam on July 5. There was blood on the exterior of the vehicle and a bullet casing inside, charging documents state.

Heisler's father reported his son missing on June 27 after noticing blood on the floor of his house.

McCard is scheduled for a Sept. 6 arraignment, while Perry is expected in court on Aug. 30 for a scheduling hearing. Freeman is set for a preliminary hearing on Monday.
