New York • Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily on Monday:

• Transocean Ltd., up 53 cents to $10.43

Energy companies rose as the price of oil continued to recover.

• LyondellBassell Industries NV, up $2.16 to $77.49

Materials companies including chemicals makers logged the biggest gains on the market Monday.

• Badger Meter Inc., down 94 cents to $70.16

The gas and water flow instrument company will split its stock and raise its dividend, but doesn't plan to sell itself.

• Post Properties Inc., up $5.86 to $68.08

The real estate investment trust agreed to be bought by rival Mid-America Apartment Communities for about $3.9 billion in stock.

• Xylem Inc., up $1.87 to $50.32

The water and wastewater treatment company said it will buy meter and technology company Sensus for $1.7 billion.

• Toll Brothers Inc., up 89 cents to $28.86

Homebuilders traded higher after a survey showed the companies are feeling better about the state of the housing market.

• Sysco Corp., down 3 cents to $52.18

The food distributor posted a larger profit than investors expected in its fiscal fourth quarter.

• Level 3 Communications Inc., down 15 cents to $49.58

Traditionally safe investments like phone company stocks lagged the market on Monday.
