Cottonwood Heights police have identified a motorcyclist who was fatally hit by a car, and arrested the car's driver for allegedly being drunk at the time of the crash.

CHPD Sgt. Ryan Shosted said that Rodney Russell, 43, of Sandy, was riding south on Highland Drive when the northbound car, driven by a California woman, 62-year-old Sally Sturtevant, made a left turn into the motorcycle's path at 6900 South about 7 p.m.

Russell was dead at the scene. Sturtevant was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of second-degree felony vehicular homicide and third-degree felony driving while under the influence of alcohol. She remained behind bars without bail on Friday, jail records showed.

The incident remained under investigation, Shosted said.
