The Rio Olympics begin later this week on NBC, and PBS sort of previews them with a couple of really good programs.

"The Nazi Games: Berlin 1936" (7 p.m., PBS/Ch. 7) recounts how the Nazis and International Olympic Committee turned the 1936 Olympics, which had previously been a relatively minor event, into a global spectacle.

And "American Experience: The Boys of '36" (8 p.m., PBS/Ch. 7) is a really engaging story of nine working-class Americans who beat Adolf Hitler's elite German rowers to win the gold medal at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.
