A Bureau of Land Management employee is dead after a crash near northeastern Utah's Flaming Gorge Reservoir on Saturday.

Garrett Barnett, 23, of Tennessee, was driving a motorcycle east on Little Hole Road in Daggett County while on duty, according to a news release from Utah Highway Patrol. About 10:50 a.m., Barnett rounded a corner and struck the back of a Jeep pulling a boat trailer.

Though Barnett was wearing a helmet, he died at the scene, the release states. Investigators say speed was a factor in the crash.

In a joint statement, the BLM and Ashley National Forest hailed Barnett as a "dedicated park ranger who loved fishing and kayaking" who will be "greatly missed by coworkers in both agencies."
