Provo • With 13 athletes scheduled to compete in 10 events, BYU will be well-represented at the NCAA Track & Field Championships this week in Eugene, Ore.

The Cougars' men's team is especially strong and capable of a top-20 finish at the season-ending meet.

"This is what we train for all year long," head coach Ed Eyestone said.

The BYU teams are led by their sensational 800-meter runners, Shea Martinez-Collinsworth on the women's side and Shaquille Walker on the men's side.

Martinez-Collinsworth won the event two weeks ago in the NCAA preliminaries in Kansas with a time of 2 minutes, 4.82 seconds and will complete in the national quarterfinals on Thursday at 6:14 p.m. MDT. She's the only BYU female who has qualified for nationals.

Walker was second in Kansas with a time of 1:48.07 and will compete in the men's semifinals Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. MDT.

Walker also anchors BYU's men's 4x400 relay team, which was 11th overall in Kansas. He will be joined by Tyrell Yardley, Mark Carlson and Jesse White. That relay's semifinals are Wednesday at 7:45 p.m., MDT, giving Walker just a little more than an hour to recover from his individual race.

White also qualified in the 400 meters after finishing 11th in Kansas. His 400 semifinal is at 6 p.m MDT on Wednesday.

The Cougars are always strong in the distance events, and this year is no exception.

Chase Horrocks will run in the 1,500 semifinals on Wednesday after finishing ninth in the preliminaries on May 28.

Connor McMillan was 8th in the 10,000 meters and will run in the finals on Wednesday.

Aaron Fletcher was 8th in the 3,000 steeplechase and will compete in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Zachary Blackham will compete in the high jump finals on Friday at 5 p.m. after finishing seventh in Kansas.

Rory Linkletter was 12th in Kansas in the 5,000 meters and will compete in the finals of that event on Friday.

Jackson Walker will compete in the men's decathlon.
