NBC is making another attempt to revive the variety show — this time with "Maya & Marty" (9 p.m., NBC/Ch. 5).

It wasn't previewed for critics, so about all we know is that Maya Rudolph and Martin Short are the hosts. I'd love to see variety make a comeback, but I can't help but be skeptical.

Tonight on the season premiere of "America's Got Talent" (7 p.m., NBC/Ch. 5), former "American Idol" host Simon Cowell (who's the executive producer of this talent/freak show) joins the judging panel … which would have been big news about a decade ago.

Also today, Season 3 of the very entertaining British crime drama "Peaky Blinders" starts streaming on Netflix.
