A Sandy family of four was unhurt but without a home after a Memorial Day weekend fire gutted its home.

Public safety dispatchers say the fire, at 8456 S. Grambling Way (1130 East), was called in about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Sandy Fire Department crews arrived to find the house fully engulfed in smoke and flames. It was believed the blaze had flashed from a propane-fueled barbecue grill onto the home's siding, and then quickly spread.

Damages were estimated at $300,000.

The family also lost two of its five pet cats to the fire.
