The Utah Chapters of the Japanese American Citizens League, with the assistance of the Dai Ichi Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Japanese Church of Christ and the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple, hosted a memorial service Sunday honoring the achievements and sacrifices of Japanese American men killed in action fighting for the United States in World War II and other Japanese American veterans who have passed on.

This service was held at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, at the World War II Japanese American veteran's monument — a tall white obelisk easily viewed by passing joggers and bike riders on 11th Avenue, just west of the Salt Lake Mausoleum.

Most of those killed and honored by the monument were members of the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the Military Intelligence Service (MIS), U. S. Army units that received the U. S. Congressional Gold Medal of honor in 2010.
