Pittsburgh • An attorney for the family of a teenage girl who was stabbed by a homeless man in a Pennsylvania Target store says the retailer failed to provide enough security to prevent her from being wounded.
The comments were made Wednesday during open statements in a lawsuit against the retailer. The trial is expected to last two weeks and is a combination of three lawsuits.
Leon Walls was convicted in the 2013 stabbing and was sentenced to 10 to 20 years behind bars.
The girl's attorney says Target should have stopped Walls. But Target sued Walls and three men hailed as heroes for rescuing her, saying they created the situation by bringing a "street" dispute into the store.
Two of the three men have countersued Minneapolis-based Target.
The girl has recovered.
