American Fork Police Chief Lance Call plans to step away from his position later this month to "pursue some other opportunities," he said in a statement released by the city Tuesday.

He will finish as chief May 25, the news release says, and has "mixed emotions" about leaving.

Call placed Lt. Sam Liddiard in charge of the department in his stead, according to the statement, but American Fork spokeswoman Audra Sorensen said city officials plan to meet Wednesday morning to confirm the interim chief.

City administrator Craig Whitehead said in the release that he has "enjoyed a great personal and professional relationship with Chief Call. He has been one of my most trusted colleagues."

Call started with American Fork Police in November 2005, after retiring from his post as public information officer for the West Valley Police Department.

While in American Fork, he set a standard of "rigorous recruitment and hiring standards," the news release said.
