The Beetdigger bats were banging Friday afternoon as Jordan took care of business against Bingham 8-2 to avoid a three-game sweep from the Miners.

"This was a huge win for us after what happened the last couple nights," Jordan coach Chad Fife said. "Losing the series still hurts, but it's a big win going into next week."

Jordan's starting pitcher, Andrew Lisk, also had a fantastic outing, throwing a complete game with only two earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.

More impressive is that he looked like the better pitcher compared to Bingham star Sean Keating, who allowed four runs off of four hits with four wild pitches in only four innings of work.

Lisk was quick to spread credit to his teammates rather than himself after besting one of the best pitchers in the state.

"It's a team effort," Lisk said. "You might say I beat him, but it's a team win; we beat their team."

Lisk also made it clear that he expects to go the distance every time he takes the mound.

"That's my mindset going into every game, if it's not then you're not a competitor. You've got to take the mound every time like 'this is my game, I'm going all the way until they pull me out,' "

Even after allowing two hits and a run in the bottom of the second, Lisk showed no sign of panic and really started to wheel and deal from then on.

"This is baseball, they're going to get hits off of you," Lisk said. "They're going to score a run or two maybe, but when they do you just have to put it behind you and get the next guy, that's what it's all about."

The win preserved Jordan's place behind undefeated Cottonwood at the top of the Region 3 standings, making next week's three-game series against the Colts a huge one if they want to keep any chance of winning a region championship alive.

"If they can figure out how to believe in themselves, we can be pretty good," Fife said. "We can do it if we play like we did today where we come at them and don't back down … but we're going to take it one game at a time and see how it unfolds."
